Refurbishment Work at MyActive Glossop Set to Begin in August

Written by on 28/07/2025

Specialist remedial work at MyActive Glossop is scheduled to begin in early August, paving the way for the centre to fully re-open later this autumn — complete with a refreshed gym and brand-new cardiovascular equipment.

Starting from Monday 4 August, contractors will begin work in the areas of the leisure centre that have remained closed following recent structural surveys. The project is expected to take around eight weeks to complete.

The works will begin in the gym, which will be the first area to re-open once upgrades are complete. Contractors will then move on to the group exercise studio and squash courts, which will follow slightly later in the reopening schedule.

Councillor Damien Greenhalgh, Deputy Leader and Executive Councillor for Regeneration, Tourism and Leisure, thanked members and staff for their patience:

“Thank you to everyone — our members, visitors, and MyActive staff — for your patience while we’ve worked behind the scenes to get this right.

“The structural issues identified last year were highly unusual, and it’s taken time to bring in the right experts for a long-term solution. But we’ve now got the green light, and I’m pleased to confirm that work is starting very soon.

“We’ve planned the programme so the gym can re-open as quickly as possible, with a new look and new cardio kit, followed by the other areas shortly after. We know the disruption has been frustrating, but this investment will mean a better, stronger centre — and we can’t wait to welcome everyone back.”

MyActive Glossop members will be contacted directly about their options and any changes while the work is ongoing.
