Written by on 11/03/2026

New images showing the planned transformation of MyActive New Mills have been released as High Peak Borough Council prepares to submit a planning application for the project.

The Council is investing around £3.5 million in the major upgrade, which aims to modernise the leisure centre and create more flexible spaces for exercise, wellbeing and community activities.

Planned improvements include

  • Retaining the existing four-court sports hall

  • Converting the squash court and part of the dry changing area to double the size of the current gym

  • Creating a mezzanine floor above the squash court and part of the gym to house a large group exercise studio

  • Converting the existing group exercise studio into an Active Wellbeing Suite

  • Upgrading the indoor cycling area into a dedicated immersive cycling studio

  • Refurbishing the pool viewing area with improved seating

  • Redecorating the reception area and enhancing food and drink facilities

Councillor Damien Greenhalgh, Deputy Leader and Executive Councillor for Regeneration, Tourism and Leisure, said:

I’m absolutely thrilled to reveal these exciting new images, offering a glimpse into the incredible transformation coming to MyActive New Mills! This £3.5m investment is a game-changer for our local community, and it’s fantastic to see our vision for a modern, state-of-the-art facility taking shape.

Supporting people to move more and stay active is a key priority for this Council and local councillors, and this redevelopment is a huge step forward in making that a reality. It’s about creating a vibrant, inclusive space that fosters health, fitness, and wellbeing for everyone. With more flexible areas for exercise, wellness and social activities, we’re ensuring that New Mills becomes a true community hub for people of all ages and abilities.

What’s even more exciting is the opportunity this gives us to work closely with health and care services, delivering real, long-term benefits to the community. We’re not just promoting physical health but also supporting people’s mental and social wellbeing. The enthusiasm from residents has been incredible, and I can’t wait for the planning application to be submitted and for us to bring this exciting project to life.

Community feedback helped shape plans

The redevelopment proposals were prepared by architects and specialist consultants and were the subject of a public consultation between November 2024 and January 2025.

More than 650 residents shared their views either through an online survey or at a public meeting held at New Mills Town Hall.

Once submitted, the planning application will be available to view on the Council’s website, where residents will also be able to submit comments.

More details and the latest images of the project can be found on the Council’s website.
