Hundreds of New Homes to Be Built Across the East Midlands as Mayor Secures £19.7m Funding Boost

Written by on 07/11/2025

Hundreds of new homes are set to be built across the East Midlands in a major step towards tackling the region’s housing crisis.

Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward, has secured an additional £19.7 million in government funding to deliver more than 750 homes across Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham, and Nottinghamshire.

This latest round of the Brownfield Housing Fund will enable the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) to transform more under-used and derelict sites into thriving residential communities.

Mayor Claire said:

Securing this funding marks another opportunity to transform communities in our region. Part of our vision for inclusive growth in the East Midlands is to build 100,000 homes – unlocking new, affordable, and modern places for our residents to live.

Grants will now be allocated to development schemes on brownfield land, breathing new life into previously under-utilised sites. The previous round of the Brownfield Housing Fund attracted over 50 expressions of interest, demonstrating the scale of regeneration potential across the East Midlands.

The additional £19.7 million will support the creation of high-quality, affordable homes aligned with the ambitions set out in both the East Midlands Growth Plan and the Inclusive Growth Commission report — key strategic documents shaping the region’s future.

Mayor Claire said:

Already, the Government is supporting our ambition and recognising our ability to deliver. These developments will bring brownfield land back into use, deliver high-quality homes, and create jobs for local people. This is about more than housing – it’s about building a stronger, fairer future for the East Midlands.

I’m committed to ensuring that every new home built is part of a bigger story: one of opportunity, sustainability, and pride in place for the people of the East Midlands.

The latest investment builds on the initial £16.8 million already secured for housing on brownfield land, bringing the total to over £36 million. Together, these projects will deliver more than 2,000 homes across the region — turning neglected sites into vibrant new neighbourhoods.

As EMCCA continues to work in partnership with local authorities, landowners, and developers, the Brownfield Housing Fund will serve as a catalyst for further investment — helping to meet housing demand, regenerate communities, and drive long-term, inclusive economic growth across the East Midlands.
