East Midlands communities to benefit from £5bn Pride in Place investment

Written by on 26/09/2025

The East Midlands is set to benefit from a major government investment, with communities across Derby, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire receiving a share of the landmark £5 billion Pride in Place programme, announced today by the Prime Minister.

The decade-long initiative will put local people at the heart of community renewal, giving residents new powers and long-term funding to restore pride in their neighbourhoods.

Funding breakdown

As part of the programme, several areas in the region will receive up to £20 million each over ten years, while others will benefit from £1.5 million in immediate funding to boost green spaces, leisure facilities and community hubs.

Areas set to receive up to £20 million each:

  • Nottinghamshire (Broxtowe): Broxtowe & Cinderhill

  • Nottingham City: St Ann’s East

  • Derby City: Chaddesden West

  • Derbyshire (Erewash): Cotmanhay

  • Derbyshire (North East Derbyshire): Grassmoor & Holmewood

Areas set to receive £1.5 million immediately:

  • Nottingham City

  • Derby City

  • Mansfield (Nottinghamshire)

  • Ashfield (Nottinghamshire)

The funding will allow residents to reclaim boarded-up shops, protect cherished community assets, and invest in new parks, play areas, cultural spaces and high street improvements.

Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward said:

This new national investment is a welcome boost for our region. People here know what their towns and cities need, and this programme should help them make those changes a reality. In the East Midlands, we are already backing communities through the Mayor’s Community Development Fund, and it is encouraging to see national government now investing in similar principles of local control.

The East Midlands has already been pioneering community-led decision making. Through the Mayor’s Community Development Fund, nearly £3 million has been directed to ten areas across the region, empowering residents to decide how money is spent.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said:

For too long, people have watched their towns and streets decline – powerless to stop boarded-up shops and neglected parks. That ends now.

We’re investing in the UK’s future, by backing the true patriots that build our communities up in neighbourhoods across every corner of the country. Because it’s people who bring pride, hope and life to our communities.

This is a huge investment, but what matters most is who decides how it’s spent: the neighbours, volunteers and parents who know their communities best – the people with real skin in the game.

We’re choosing renewal over decline, unity over division. This is our Plan for Change in action – giving power and pride back to the people who make Britain great.

Building on existing initiatives

Today’s announcement builds on the government’s £1.5 billion Plan for Neighbourhoods, which is already supporting 75 communities nationwide. In the East Midlands, two areas are benefitting:

  • Clifton, Nottingham: where a local pastor is working to support community groups following last summer’s disorder, alongside regeneration of playing fields and high streets.

  • Newark-on-Trent: where the Upper Floor Unit Conversion Scheme is turning vacant town centre spaces into housing.

The Pride in Place programme represents one of the most significant long-term commitments to local communities in a generation – aiming to revitalise neighbourhoods and give people across the UK a greater say in shaping their futures.
