University of Derby – Buxton celebrates another year of outstanding Level 3 results

Students and staff from the University of Derby – Buxton came together in the Devonshire Dome today to celebrate another year of outstanding Level 3 results, as learners collected their grades and looked ahead to exciting futures at university, Higher Education and employment.

The Buxton campus, which specialises in vocational training for school leavers, celebrated 100% pass rates across a range of Level 3 programmes, including Business, Creative Media, Hairdressing, Sport, Uniformed Services and T Levels in Health and Early Years & Education.

Sarah Charles, Director of the Institute for Education and Skills at the University of Derby – Buxton, said: “We are incredibly proud of our students and their achievements this year. These results reflect their hard work, determination and ambition, alongside the dedication of our staff and industry partners. With exceptional pass rates across a wide range of subjects and so many students achieving Merit and Distinction grades, this is a fantastic achievement for Buxton. We congratulate all of our learners and wish them every success in the exciting next steps of their journey.”

Among those celebrating in the Dome was Jessica Allenson, 18, from near Bakewell, who achieved a Triple Distinction* in Creative Media and will either progress onto the Level 4 Media programme at University of Derby – Buxton or pursue an apprenticeship with a local employer.

She said: “I worked hard on the course to attain these results and loved the freedom it gave me to explore creatively.”

Bevan Kearey, from New Mills, achieved a Triple Merit in Business and is planning to travel before deciding on his next career step.

He said: “I’m really happy with my results. I’m looking forward to travelling before deciding on my next career step.”

Fellow Creative Media student George Prince, 19, from Buxton, achieved a Triple Distinction and will progress to Manchester Metropolitan University to study Foundation Film Production.

George said: “I’m really pleased with my results today. The course was great, the tutors helped me a lot and I met a lot of new friends through the course.”

In Public Services, Konni Turner, 18, from Buxton, achieved a Distinction and is now preparing to pursue a career in policing.

She said: “I really enjoyed the course and worked hard. My next step is applying to the police force, but first I need to get my driving licence.”

In Education and Early Years, Jasmine Barker, 18, from Kingsley Holt, achieved a Merit and will progress to Staffordshire University to study Primary Education with QTS.

She said: “I’m hoping to fulfil my dream of being a teacher and this grade takes me on to my next step.”

The success of students progressing directly into employment was also evident. Lottie Gill, 19, from Chapel-en-le-Frith, achieved a Pass in Level 3 Hairdressing and has already launched her own mobile hair and lashes business serving clients across the High Peak.

She said: “I’m very pleased with my result today. The experience of working with paying customers at the salon has helped me build my skills and confidence.”

Liam Tobin-Ward, Subject Lead FE & Skills, added: “As the national conversation increasingly recognises the importance of technical and vocational education, it is fantastic to see our learners progressing to university, higher-level study and employment with the skills and confidence they need for the future.”
