Pavilion Gardens stays open during roof works

Written by on 23/12/2025

One of the High Peak’s most popular visitor attractions, Pavilion Gardens, remains open to the public while essential roof repairs are carried out.

High Peak Borough Council is investing £1.2 million in repairs and improvements at the Grade II listed Pavilion Gardens complex. The work is being delivered in two phases and is designed to protect the historic buildings while enhancing facilities for visitors.

The first phase includes roof repairs to the Pavilion Arts Centre and office areas, as well as the roofs above the retail units and café seating spaces. While scaffolding and contractors will be visible on site, all activities and events, shops and hospitality venues remain open as usual.

A second phase of works will focus on the conservatory roof sections and upgrades to public toilet facilities.

The investment will help safeguard the landmark Victorian complex and improve the overall visitor experience for years to come.

Councillor Damien Greenhalgh, Deputy Leader and Executive Councillor for Regeneration, Tourism and Leisure, said:

The Pavilion Gardens is one our most valued assets in the High Peak and one of our most cherished attractions for residents and visitors alike. This important investment is about protecting its historic character while ensuring it continues to offer a fantastic experience for generations to come.

While the first phase of these essential works is underway, the Gardens remain very much open – so we encourage everyone to keep visiting, enjoy the events, shops and cafes, and love all this iconic destination has to offer.

Visitors are advised to follow on-site signage while the works are in progress, but can continue to enjoy all that Pavilion Gardens has to offer throughout the project.
