Free Festive Parking Returns to High Peak Car Parks This December

Written by on 19/11/2025

High Peak Borough Council has confirmed that parking will once again be free across all Council pay-and-display car parks this December, helping residents and businesses prepare for and enjoy the festive season.

Free parking will be available on:

  • Saturdays 6, 13, 20 and 27 December

  • Christmas Eve

  • New Year’s Eve

The offer aims to support local businesses by encouraging people to shop local and spend more time in town centres during the busiest retail period of the year.

In addition, free parking will be provided to support Christmas lights switch-on events:

  • Buxton – Saturday 22 November

  • Glossop – Saturday 29 November

  • New Mills – Saturday 6 December (which also aligns with the free December Saturday parking offer)

Councillor Damien Greenhalgh, Deputy Leader and Executive Councillor for Regeneration, Tourism and Leisure, said:

We know that offering free parking during the festive season is welcomed by our residents and visitors and gives our businesses and social events a boost.

And this year, there’s so much happening across the High Peak that people will want to be part of so I’m delighted to announce these dates. I hope this gesture by the Council will encourage everyone to make the High Peak their destination of choice for shopping, socialising and enjoying the spirit and traditions that make the build up to Christmas such a special time of year.

The Council reminds drivers that while parking charges are suspended on these dates, other regulations still apply, including maximum stay limits and designated bay restrictions.
