Banking Hub Secured for Buxton Following Halifax Closure
Written by Kane Smith on 26/09/2025
A new Banking Hub is set to open on Spring Gardens, Buxton, following confirmation that Lloyds Banking Group will close its Halifax branch in the town on 20 January 2026.
The closure comes as part of a nationwide restructuring by Lloyds Banking Group, which is pushing more customers towards online banking. The move has raised widespread concern about the impact on residents, small businesses, and those less confident with digital services.
High Peak MP Jon Pearce has been in regular contact with LINK and Lloyds Banking Group to press for alternative provision in Buxton. Following his intervention, it has now been confirmed that the town will receive a Banking Hub – shared facilities where customers of all major banks can withdraw and deposit cash over the counter. The Hubs also provide access to community bankers from different banks on set days each week for face-to-face support.

I know how worried people in Buxton and across the High Peak are about losing their last bank branches. Access to cash and in-person banking is not a luxury – it’s essential for our communities, especially for older people, small businesses, and anyone who can’t easily bank online.
That’s why I’ve worked closely with LINK and Cash Access UK to make sure our communities continue to get access to cash and in-person banking services. We have already secured a new Banking Hub for Glossop, which will be opening soon, and I’m pleased that, following the concerning news that the Halifax branch will be closing, we have also secured a new Banking Hub on Spring Gardens for Buxton.
This will mean that when the Halifax branch closes, people will still have access to the vital banking services they rely on.
To ensure continuity, the Halifax branch will remain open until the new Banking Hub is operational, avoiding any gap in provision.
