Police Target Speeding and Dangerous Driving in High Peak Crackdown

Written by on 25/08/2025

Speeding motorists and anti-social drivers were the focus of a police traffic operation in Glossop and Bamford on Sunday, 24 August 2025.

Officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Team stopped 111 cars and 44 motorbikes during the day, carrying out checks to ensure vehicles complied with the Road Traffic Act.

The operation led to five drivers being ticketed for illegal number plates, while one lorry was turned around for breaching the 7.5-tonne weight restriction.

The action follows continued complaints from local residents about speeding and hazardous driving, and comes after a successful traffic operation earlier this month. Police say the checks are part of their zero-tolerance approach to motorists who use local roads “as race tracks.”

PCSO Joanne Turner, of the High Peak policing team, said:
“We want to thank everyone who stopped for these checks and for the positive feedback we received from both motorists and residents throughout the day. These operations will continue at different locations across the High Peak as we tackle dangerous driving head-on.”

Police are encouraging anyone with concerns or information about speeding or anti-social driving to report it via the Derbyshire Police website, through the online web chat, or by calling 101. Reports can also be made anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or at crimestoppers-uk.org.
