The Farmyard Inn Hosts Family Fun Day Amid Road Closure Challenges

Written by on 16/08/2025

A village pub in Youlgreave, near Bakewell, is pressing ahead with plans for a community family fun day and music festival, despite facing tough challenges from a major road closure.

The Farmyard Inn, run by landlady Kelly Tilson, will host the “Pommie” Family Fun Day on Saturday 30th August 2025, from 12:00 pm to 11:30 pm in the pub’s car park. The event promises live music, entertainment, and activities for all ages, with proceeds also going towards supporting the two local non-profit schools in the village.

However, preparations have been overshadowed by the unexpected closure of the main access road from the A6 into Youlgreave, which shut on 28th July for essential tree-felling work. The road is due to remain closed until early September, cutting off bus services and making it harder for visitors to reach the village.

Ms Tilson says the disruption has hit local businesses hard, including her own:

“The road closure has had a serious impact on visitor numbers. I’ve been relying on my savings just to keep paying staff wages. This event is now more important than ever — not just for my business, but for the whole community.”

The Pommie Family Fun Day will be held at:

Farmyard Inn, Main Street, Youlgreave, DE45 1UW

Visitors can enjoy an outside beer marquee, magician, bucking bull rodeo, bouncy castle, a small makers’ market, lots of kids’ games, and a raffle.

Music will start from 12:00 pm, with live singers and bands performing from 2:30 pm. The line-up includes:

  • Ben Brown Lee
  • Nancy Brooks
  • Tony Maloney & the Lonely Ponies
  • John Street Revival
  • Coldflame as headliners

Organizers are calling on the community and visitors from across Derbyshire to support the event, enjoy a day of fun, and help raise funds for the village schools.

The “Pommie” Family Fun Day promises a full day of entertainment for all ages, rain or shine.
