Residents in Gamesley are celebrating the completion of three fully refurbished community play areas following a £250,000 investment by the Borough Council.
Delivered through the Council’s Play Investment and Delivery Plan, the spaces at Edale Close, Centurion, and Cottage Lane have all been improved and now offer modern equipment, enhanced accessibility, and improved recreational opportunities.
Outdoor fitness equipment has also been installed at Cottage Lane to encourage healthy lifestyles and wellbeing for people of all ages.
Councillor Damien Greenhalgh, Deputy Leader and Executive Councillor for Regeneration, Tourism and Leisure, said: “Parks and play areas are a huge priority for this Council, and we’ve been putting real investment behind that commitment.
“We know Gamesley’s play areas have been crying out for some TLC, so I’m absolutely delighted that we’ve been able to give not just one, but all three a fantastic make-over in one big bang! That’s £250,000 invested in better places for local children and families to enjoy.
“Add to that our support for the brilliant community-led work at the Roman Gardens, and it’s a really exciting time for Gamesley.
“A massive thank you to the local residents, community groups, and primary schools who helped shape these improvements through our extensive engagement. It’s fantastic to see that investment making a real difference, and I can’t wait to see these modern, inclusive, attractive spaces buzzing with families enjoying them!”
The Leader of the Council, Councillor Anthony McKeown, who represents the Gamesley ward, added: “It’s great to see our investment plans leap off the page from strategy to reality with these improvements to local play areas. I’m particularly pleased to see the improvements at Cottage Lane providing equipment not just for fun but to improve your health as well.”
